Welcome to the College Library wiki about Information Literacy and its implementation across the College.
Information Literacyis knowing when and why you need information, where to find it, and how to evaluate, use and communicate it in an ethical manner.
Research Processis the sequence of events that is undertaken when planning and conducting efficient and effective research. There are many different models of the Research Process. One of them is Kuhlthau's Model of the Information Search Process (ISP).This model describes users' experience in the process of information seeking as a series of thoughts, feelings and actions. The stages of the Information Search Process (ISP) are potential zones of instructional intervention by the teacher-librarian to develop deep knowledge and understanding.
The ISP Model has evolved from considerable research as stated on Carol's website ........
"The development of the ISP as a conceptual framework is the result of more than two decades of empirical research that began with a qualitative study of secondary school students and the emergence of an initial model, that was verified and refined through quantitative and longitudinal methods of diverse library users and further developed in case studies of people in the workplace."
Information-to-Knowledge Continuum
The purpose of implementing the Information-to-Knowledge Continuum into the curriculum is to improve student learning outcomes by students moving from information seekers to knowledge creators.
Action Research Project
Aim: to gather evidence about the direct impact Information Literacy intervention has on improving student learning outcomes.
Method: the teacher-librarians will work with several teachers and their class to develop and trial lessons through zones of intervention where we assess and evaluate outcomes.
